Acpa Agreement

Almost exactly four years ago, airlines first signed a cooperation and synergies agreement and said they might have enough traffic to reach destinations like Latin America, which Cargojet probably wouldn`t do on its own, while Air Canada said it didn`t want to get into the maindeck. “This process expires on December 31, 2017. At the end of October, the ACPA advised Air Canada that it did not intend to seek a further extension because there was not enough value for our members and, therefore, sufficient member support to ratify a longer-term agreement under our collective agreement. These changes are the result of provisions relating to periodic reopenings adopted when the ten-year contract was concluded in October 2014. Due to the long-term nature of the historic 10-year agreement, these mandatory reopenings allow for adjustments to ensure the agreement remains effective in supporting Air Canada`s strategic plan for profitable growth. It also implies that a limited number of adjustments can be made in order to seize market opportunities that may arise in the highly contested aviation industry. Third, we often hear about companies using the threat or promise to change fleet numbers and types used as carrots or sticks to influence pilot groups. In the case of Sky Regional Pilots, we understand that the future of Air Canada`s D-190 main fleet is linked to your current discussions about union leadership. Let us be clear, the provisions of the ACPA collective agreement require that this fleet remain with Air Canada. AcpAs MEC does not plan to change this language. In addition, we are not in discussions with any other party to authorize aircraft beyond the current Scope border outside of the Air Canada pilot group.

While we know that this can be an emotional discussion considering the correlation between aircraft type and working conditions, we hope that clarity will help inform your discussions about the organization. Second, many Air Canada Express pilots feel that the way Air Canada`s flight is outsourced in its Capacity Purchase Agreements (CPAs) is uneven and unpredictable. The distribution of Air Canada`s regional flight among several AOCs has contributed to a rift between several CPA airlines and created a whipping effect as a result of atypical, precarious jobs and internal divisions. As a pilot group, we strongly support the pilot unit, as we believe the meeting is the best opportunity for us to protect pilots from these threats. The ten-year agreement guarantees long-term work stability.
